1. Whether it's purchasing items over the Internet via credit cards or
soon, electronic cash, use the CyberCash Secure Payment System to

2. Do not make purchases by sending cash or checks via postal service.
If the CyberCash Wallet is not offered at a merchant's web site, only
use a credit card to make a purchase by either faxing it or calling
the merchant. A credit card has secure features that help fight
against fraud; i.e. a proven purchase record, insurance, and your
credit card issuer's support.

3. Never enter a credit card in the clear. Always require some type of
encryption when making purchases on the Internet. Let merchants know

4. Be cautious of merchants whose only payment system is cash and

5. Only purchase from reputable merchants. If someone accepts credit

6. Try and find out who is at the other end of the line before giving
out your credit card number. Know how many people will handle or have

make your payment authorization. Ideally, they should break it down
into the cost of the merchandise, shipping costs, tax, etc. You don't
want to find out your purchase was more than you thought after your
final receipt came back.

8. Read all the purchasing agreements, liabilities and instructions
before making a purchase. In fact, print them to hard copy for your
records since web pages are changed frequently.

9. Make sure you get a receipt for your purchases. In fact, the
CyberCash Payment System automatically logs receipt information in
your Wallet. However, it doesn't hurt to write down any information on
the merchant (i.e. phone numbers, addresses) for your files. This is
